**Organization and Job ID** Job ID: 308618 Directorate: Energy & Environment Division: Electricity Infrastructure & Buildings Group: Energy Policy & Economics **Job Description** The Energy Policy & Economics group at the Pacific Northwest National Laboratory (PNNL) is seeking an Energy Policy Scientist\Engineer\Analyst; the individual will be a technical contributor and task leader on a growing team of engineers, researchers, economists, and analysts developing innovative methods to achieve greater efficiency, optimization, and resiliency of the nation?s energy systems under considerations of the environment. This position is responsible for a suite of research projects and external engagements for PNNL?s Industry Acceptance of Energy Storage thrust area under the Department of Energy?s Office of Electricity - Energy Storage Program strategy. In addition this position will support energy infrastructure modernization projects and programs across the laboratory where additional insight into valuation, regulatory design, tariffs, policy, and utility business models are involved. The individual will work with and provide leadership to project teams that serve as a technical resource and program planners\implementers for market introduction and adoption activities related to electricity infrastructure. The primary sponsor is the Department of Energy and its associated program offices, and secondary sponsors include smaller agencies, state government, and private organizations. This position offers the opportunity for a broad range of involvement in activities including research and development of electricity infrastructure related technologies and policies, energy user\operator needs and issues; working with States, program providers, and others as they raise awareness and increase adoption and upgrading of energy infrastructure technologies and policies; identifying and helping develop new and improved tools and resources for addressing energy storage and electricity infrastructure needs; and designing workshops, case studies, programs\training that support the application and use of energy storage technologies and best practices. The position: + Will work with sponsor relationship management, program managers, and the technical group manager to support and lead tasks that are required to be completed on time and within budget. There will be direct interface with sponsors and their subcontractors to gather data, and plan and implement activities. + Will serve as Principal investigator or co-PI on projects or tasks, while integrating capabilities of work team members. + Will be responsible for presentation of program results to clients and others; from time to time, travel requirements may be as high as 25%. + Will be expected to attend conferences and present results of work, as well as support energy storage education in public forums and via invited presentations. + Generates new ideas for proposals and business development opportunities while leading development of technical section of small to medium proposals. **This location will be located in Portland, Oregon.** **Minimum Qualifications** + B.S. degree with 5+ years of experience, M.S. degree with 3+ years of experience, or a Ph.D. with 1+ years of experience. + The individual must be an industry-recognized expert in electricity infrastructure analysis, valuation, and regulatory approaches (especially in the energy storage area). Individual must have the demonstrated ability to apply advanced energy principles, theories and concepts in the fields of electricity infrastructure technology and policy. + The position requires advanced knowledge\experience related to the design and construction of the nation?s electricity infrastructure, storage technologies, analysis, and mechanisms for deployment, and an understanding of the stakeholders, utilities, vendors, and regulatory bodies who are engaged in that technology deployment and related policy implementation. + Advanced knowledge of energy markets, energy storage technologies, and energy storage simulation and valuation models, methods, and tools is preferred. **Preferred Qualifications** + Ph.D. or Master?s degree in engineering or economics and at least 3 years? experience; or equivalent education/experience related to: energy storage technologies, analysis, and valuation; utilities planning/oversight, and extensive knowledge of best practices in electricity infrastructure technologies and policies. + Strong analysis skills and/or direct leadership experience with activities that promote technologies and best practices for energy storage are desired. + Experience in designing research methodologies and leading research teams in carrying out research plans. + Strong, demonstrated writing capabilities and the ability to present information clearly and capably in a public setting. + The person will have significant previous experience in the energy storage sector and electricity infrastructure industry and will possess a recognized reputation working for or with utilities, vendors, and state/local government. **Equal Employment Opportunity** Battelle Memorial Institute (BMI) at Pacific Northwest National Laboratory (PNNL) is an Affirmative Action/Equal Opportunity Employer and supports diversity in the workplace.
