Position Details:
The Opportunity:
The Farmer 4 position is responsible to perform, oversee and
supervise a variety of duties to maintain optimum field operations
and irrigation systems for the Irrigated Agriculture Research and
Extension Center (IAREC) at Washington State University (WSU)
Prosser. The duties of the position include, but are not limited
to: supervision of and participating in mowing, cultivating,
irrigating, spraying, irrigation, weed control, harvesting a
variety of crops, equipment operation and maintenance, and other
duties as assigned. In addition, the Farmer 4 may be tasked with
oversight and supervision of persons performing the above duties;
assigning tasks to Farmer 2 and Farmer 3 positions, and making
management decisions with regard to planting, growing and
harvesting a wide variety of crops.
Additional Information:
This is a full time (100% FTE), permanent position. This position
is overtime eligible.
Monthly Salary: $3,811 to $5,117 - Range 44 Steps A-M - Successful
candidates are typically hired at the beginning of the salary range
and receive scheduled salary increment increases in accordance with
WAC 357-28.
In accordance with RCW 49.58.110, the above salary reflects the
full salary range for this position. Individual placement within
the range is based on the candidate's current experience,
education, skills, and abilities related to the position.

Required Qualifications:
Two years' experience in game farm operations or one year of
experience in a creamery or dairy processing work, at least six
months must include experience directing the work of others; OR
equivalent education/experience.
Consideration will be given to candidates with equivalent
education/experience to two years' general farming operations and
6-months experience directing the work of others, in operations
other than game farm, creamery or dairy processing.
Must have, or be able to obtain by time of hire, a valid driver's
license and meet requirements in accordance with SPPM 7.10 and
departmental driving standards.
Must have a Washington Public Operators Pesticide License, or the
ability to obtain one within three (3) months of hire.
Able and willing to work irregular and extended hours when
necessary.
Able to work irregular work schedule.
Experience completing basic maintenance and repairs on farm
equipment.
Proficiency reading, writing and speaking English.
Basic computer skills.
Preferred Qualifications:
Ability to speak Spanish.
