**Job Description**

The Synthetic Biology team of the Biological Sciences Division at the Pacific Northwest National Laboratory (PNNL) is seeking to hire enthusiastic and skilled post-bachelor research associates. Applicants with research experience in experimental synthetic biology are especially encouraged to apply. Successful candidates will join a multi-institution team of researchers seeking to understand genetic factors driving the persistence of engineered microbial functions in plant rhizosphere environments. We are innovating synthetic biology research at PNNL by integrating high-throughput genomics, transcriptomics, proteomics, and fluorescence techniques to understand and control the persistence of engineered functions that support the growth of bioenergy crops. Selected applicants will work closely with PNNL and external collaborator scientists to develop genetic tools in novel bacterial isolates, discover gene function and gene regulatory networks relevant to environmental persistence, edit bacterial genomes to assess the effects of genome remodeling on cellular fitness and engineered functions, and visualize high-complexity gene expression datasets.

These positions are for full-time, limited-term employment. The duration of these appointments is one year with an option of extension subject to project funding and individual performance.
