Pacific Northwest National Laboratorys Nuclear Sciences Division
(NSsD) is seeking a Senior Technical Advisor responsible for
understanding the challenges associated with nuclear energy
systems. The Senior Technical Advisor will conceive, create,
develop, and implement an actionable strategy that will enable PNNL
to deliver cutting edge solutions to DOE missions in partnership
with U.S. industry and other national laboratories.
Work with senior PNNL leaders to develop programmatic
strategies, utilizing existing PNNL capabilities, and partnerships
with other national laboratories and industry to meet Department of
Energy (DOE), Nuclear Regulatory Commission (NRC), and National
Nuclear Security Administration (NNSA) objectives related to
regional, national, and global nuclear energy system innovation and
Inform and support business activities and interacts with senior
executives at sponsor locations and PNNL senior leadership to
identify and shape future R&D opportunities, both within PNNL
and across partner national laboratories and industry.
Work across PNNL to identify next generation laboratory
capabilities and investments needed to meet DOE and commercial
Develop and grow relationships with other DOE labs, research
institutions, and industry to collaborate on large-scale projects
of national importance.
Mentor and guide junior to senior level staff to develop their
technical and leadership competencies.
BS with 12+ years experience
MS with 8+ years experience
PhD with 5+ years experience
Advanced degree (MS or PhD) in Mechanical or Nuclear
Strong understanding of national and international policies and
regulatory frameworks related to the nuclear fuel cycle,
radioactive waste management, and related infrastructure.
Demonstrated experience working with international partners on
challenges related to nuclear energy (i.e., International Atomic
Energy Agency or United States Department of State).
Proven ability to create and execute strategies, identify and
interact with key stakeholders, prepare program proposals, and
generate future R&D or mission application directions.
Excellent interpersonal, written and oral skills; the ability to
effectively lead interdisciplinary teams, and a strong orientation
toward advancing the state-of-the-art technical capabilities.
