Shielded Facilities Operations is seeking a Nuclear Operations
Technician Level 1 or Level 2. The successful candidate will safely
work with radioactive and hazardous material in hot cells, fume
hoods, glove boxes and on bench tops. Work will support a wide
range of research and development projects. Work will include
operation of electromechanical manipulators in hot cells,
analytical chemistry, decontamination of radioactive material,
preventative and corrective maintenance of radioactive systems,
waste management, and logging facility systems status. Work
requires precision in following written procedures and conforming
to facility conduct of operations.
Level 1: Entry level. Limited radioactive work
experience. Applies standard procedures for assigned tasks and
known processes. Performs work under direct supervision and
receives detailed instructions on new assignments. Assignments are
typically routine in nature requiring limited judgment. High school
diploma and 1+ years of related work experience, or relevant
Level 2: Semi-skilled level. Selects, adapts,
and applies standard procedures for assigned tasks and known
processes. Rigorously practices appropriate radioactive
contamination control techniques. Capable of working with several
types of laboratory instrumentation and equipment. Normally
receives little instruction on daily work, general instructions on
new work assignments. High school diploma and 2+ years of relevant
work experience, or relevant Associate's degree and 1+ years of
relevant work experience.

Background Investigation: Applicants selected will be subject to
a Federal background investigation and must meet eligibility
requirements for access to classified matter in accordance 10 CFR
710, Appendix B.
Drug Testing: All Security Clearance (L or Q) positions will be
considered by the Department of Energy to be Testing Designated
Positions which means that they are subject to applicant, random,
and for cause drug testing. In addition, applicants must be able to
demonstrate non-use of illegal drugs, including marijuana, for the
12 consecutive months preceding completion of the requisite
Questionnaire for National Security Positions (QNSP).
Note: Applicants will be considered ineligible for security
clearance processing by the U.S. Department of Energy until non-use
of illegal drugs, including marijuana, for 12 consecutive months
can be demonstrated.
