PNNL has vibrant research programs in Lung Biology, Diabetes, Aging, Cancer, Alzheimer's Disease, Exercise Physiology, Metabolism among others. (for references, see Nakayasu et al. Cell Metabolism, 2020, DOI: 10.1016/j.cmet.2019.12.005; Clair et al., Am J Respir Crit Care Med, 2022, DOI: 10.1164/rccm.202008-3303OC; Dou et al., Cell. 2020, DOI: 10.1016/j.cell.2020.01.026; Shi et al., PNAS, 2013, DOI: 10.1073/pnas.1204366109; Fulcher et al, J Proteome Res, 2021, DOI: 10.1021/acs.jproteome.1c00049). The individual will be performing a single or a combination of deep mass spectrometry-based omics (proteomics, lipidomics, metabolomics, and/or analysis of post-translational modifications) and functional and analyses of cells, tissues, protein complexes, and biofluids to discover and probe novel mechanistic pathways that drive normal human development and dysregulations that contribute to diseases. The candidate will have the opportunity to receive technical training in the latest cutting-edge mass spectrometry applications available within PNNL's world-class Environmental Molecular Sciences Laboratory which houses over 40 top-of-the-line mass spectrometers. The center also houses other high-end resources, such as nuclear magnetic resonance, single molecule microscopy, cryo-electron microscopy, and mass cytometry.

This is a full-time, limited term employment position. The duration of this appointment is two years, with the option of extending the appointment for up to three years. Salary is commensurate with qualifications and experience but is among the most competitive of the market.

The selected candidate is expected to 1) Conduct independent research and work on team assignments, lead manuscripts and maintain a strong overall publication record in the peer-reviewed scientific literature, 2) Interact, communicate, and problem-solve with a diverse team of multi-disciplinary research staff across PNNL, 3) Present research projects at national conferences, (4) Work safely and independently in a laboratory setting, and (5) Participate in the development of research proposals.

The ideal candidate would have a Ph.D. degree in the biological sciences, chemistry or closely related fields. Hands-on experience with chromatography (immunoaffinity, size exclusion, etc.), LC-MS for acquiring proteomics data from cells, tissues and/or biofluids, and the ability to tackling large, complex multi-omics datasets is highly desired. The candidate should have excellent "lab hands", i.e. technical expertise at the bench. Additionally, the candidate should be safety-oriented, possess excellent communication skills (oral and written), be collaborative, and have a desire to learn and develop new concepts and research techniques.
