opportunity for a Surgical Technologist to join our growing
Tri-City Regional Surgery Center team located in Richland, WA!
Shift Details: Full time, 1.0, Day Shift Minimum Requirements:
- Current registration as a Surgical Technologist (ST) in
Washington State as per RCW 18.215
- Current American Heart Association Healthcare Provider BLS
Preferred Qualifications:
- Graduated from an Accredited Training Program
- National certification as a Surgical Technologist
- Experience as a Surgical Technologist
- Bi-lingual or multi-lingual skills Duties include, but are not
limited to, the following: As a Surgical Technologist you will
assist in the preparation and care of surgical patients ranging
from infants to geriatrics; Assists with surgical procedures in the
Ambulatory Surgery Center; and perform routine and delegated duties
according to departmental policies.
- Demonstrate and sustain compliance with Kadlec Caregiver
Expectations Standard of Excellence and Code of Conduct
- Consistently maintains a customer service focus when providing
patient care
- Set up the assigned operating room following established
department procedures assuring the equipment is appropriate for the
specific surgery
- Obtain and arranges on instrument table all surgical
instruments and supplies that are required for the surgery
- Assist in positioning the patient when needed, drapes patient;
maintains sterile field during the procedure. Responsible to create
adequate space surrounding the sterile field
- Adhere to department policies and procedures related to aseptic
technique and sterile techniques; complies with Universal
Precautions and AORN standards for Operating Room attire
- Assist surgeon, and other team members, during the procedure by
passing instruments, sponges, sutures and other needed equipment as
requested and handles instruments/equipment according to
manufacturer's recommendations and department policies
- Perform sponges, needles, instruments counts with RN prior to,
during and at the end of any procedure, following departmental
policy/procedure, and at any break of personnel in the room.
Participates in the "Time Out" prior to and debriefing at the end
of each procedure
- Assume, with the RN, the responsibility for proper
identification and labeling of specimens giving attention to detail
and accuracy
- Check suction equipment for proper functioning and may operate
or assist in operating suction equipment during surgery
- Transport sealed, pre-packaged procedure trays that contain
sharps for the purpose of stocking rooms in the department (example
- Lumbar puncture tray)
- Demonstrate annually skills required
- Assist in maintaining a clean, orderly and safe
environment
- Demonstrate the knowledge and skills necessary to provide care
appropriate to the age of patients served on the unit as outlined
in established procedures
- Communicate accurately and effectively to patients, pertinent
staff and physicians
- Adhere to standard policies as outlined in department related
to infection control, fire and safety, hazardous chemicals,
personnel policies and departmental procedures
- Possibly function in other related peri-operative roles, such
as OR Assistant or do tasks related to sterilization
- Assist with the teaching of newly hired surgical technologists
and (if applicable) student Surgical Technologists
- Complete and maintains skills in all specialties based on
specialty competencies to serve as a resource in complex or on call
cases
- Serve as a role model to new employees and other staff
members
- Anticipate the needs of the surgical team
- Consistently demonstrates a positive attitude
- Support change with positive feedback
- Participate in updating and maintaining surgeon preference
cards
- Take direction from the circulating nurse related to patient
safety in the case
- Arrive within 20 minutes when called into work after being
on-call for those departments who have call as a requirement for
