Job Description

In support of the Hanford Northwind IT Infrastructure (ITI) organization, this position will work with the ITI managers and other ITI project managers, assisting with the management of critical IM projects and interfacing with other Hanford contractors.

The Project Manager assists with all phases of IM projects from concept to completion maintaining project documents, deliverables, and reporting. Provide project management support to plan, execute, and finalize projects at the Hanford Site according to strict deadlines and within budget. Project Management includes the assessment, maintenance, documentation, modernization, testing and program implementation functions. The Project Manager, in coordination with other Project Managers and management, is also responsible for acquiring resources and coordinating the efforts of team members and third-party contractors or consultants to deliver projects according to plan.

The candidate must be able to develop and maintain positive and effective relationships with peers, staff other Hanford contractors and customer base. This includes communicating effectively, verbally and in writing, exercising sound judgment and discretion, as well as working well under pressure and efficiently on short turnaround assignments.

  • Define project scope, goals and deliverables that support business goals in collaboration with staff, management, and stakeholders.
  • Effectively communicate project expectations to team members and stakeholders in a timely and clear fashion.
  • Liaise with project stakeholders on an ongoing basis.
  • Set and continually manage project expectations with team members and other stakeholders.
  • Plan and schedule project timelines and milestones using appropriate tools.
  • Track project milestones and deliverables.
  • Define project success criteria and disseminate them to involved parties throughout project life cycle.
  • Conduct project postmortems and create a recommendations report to identify successful and unsuccessful project elements.
  • Develop best practices and tools for project execution and management.
  • Estimate the resources and participants needed to achieve project goals.
  • Direct and manage project development from beginning to end.
  • Delegate tasks and responsibilities to appropriate personnel.
  • Identify and resolve issues and conflicts within the project team.
  • Identify and manage project dependencies and critical path.
  • Develop and deliver progress reports, proposals, requirements documentation, and presentations.
  • Proactively manage changes in project scope, identify potential crises, and devise contingency plans.
  • Coach, mentor, motivate and supervise project team members and contractors, and influence them to take positive action and accountability for their assigned work.
  • The project manager will work directly with managers, other project managers, engineers, and customer subject matter experts Qualifications
    • BA/BS degree in Computer Science/IT/related field plus 4 -7 years of progressive information technology related leadership or project management experience OR a combination of education and work experience (2 years of work experience is considered equivalent to 1 year of formal education)
    • Strong familiarity with project management software, such as Microsoft Project, as well as technically competent with various software programs, such as Microsoft Office, Excel and SharePoint.
    • Excellent interpersonal skills with proven ability to work in a team-oriented collaborative environment
    • Highly self-motivated and self-directed
    • Strong customer relationship skills
    • Ability to support a staff of technical subject matter experts during non-standard business hours.
    • Must be a US Citizen with the ability to acquire and maintain a Department of Energy, Public Trust Security Clearance. Desirable Skills
      • Experience with Software/IT life cycles (SDLC). SDLC knowledge should include both Waterfall and Agile methodologies.
      • Experience with Microsoft Azure DevOps and/or other Agile methodology organization tools such as Jira, Asana, or Trello
      • DOE or Hanford Site experience
