OverviewThis position executes and continually enhances a codified, replicable process for delivering project management excellence and managing project risks. The PMOD supports the achievement of the Laboratory Mission Outcomes assigned to the Directorate by ensuring expert delivery stewardship for a portfolio of 160-220 projects directly contributing to sponsor mission outcomes. The PMOD oversees all aspects of expert delivery, including management of project risk and interfacing with project managers, Group Leaders, Division Directors, Market Sector Managers, and key sponsors to deliver national impact.This PMO includes delivering high-quality products and services to the international community in a wide spectrum of weapons of mass destruction nonproliferation and international security implementation projects. This PMO's has activities in nuclear and radiological threat reduction, and, broader chemical, biological and missile threat reduction and international security projects are also included. This PMO provides expert delivery of projects delivering technology and engineered systems that support the National Security missions. Rigorous attention is applied to managing the technology life cycle with the expectation that an objective of the research and development is eventual deployment of solutions into complex operational environments, and that the deliverables perform to meet client and user expectations. In addition, projects will include the actual deployment of prototypes, and operational systems across the spectrum of Technology Readiness Levels (TRLs). ResponsibilitiesResponsibilities:Assure all project risks are properly identified, addressed in planning, formally accepted, and there is assurance they can be fully mitigated during project execution.Assure projects effectively and efficiently produce high quality research products.Work with contracts, finance, and line management to establish adequate budgets, realistic schedules and align appropriate resources for performing the work so that high-quality products are delivered to sponsors on time and within budget.Fully understand and meet or exceed sponsor expectations for content, quality and delivery.Assure that projects are executed in a safe, secure, environmentally conscious, and operationally compliant manner.Assure that appropriate quality steps are taken to ensure that products are technically sound and can be relied upon by the client.Tailor management system processes and staffing models to support reliable delivery of high-quality results. QualificationsMinimum Qualifications:BS/BA and 15 years of experience -OR-MS/MA or higher and 13 years of relevant project management experiencePreferred Qualifications:Graduate of PMDP, MSDP, and/or ELP; PMP certification or demonstrated equivalent (knowledge competency criteria) expected.Preference is for individual having a background in either the nuclear, chemical or biological engineering fields or sciences. Demonstrated ability to identify shortcomings in organizational processes and influence change for improvement. Hazardous Working Conditions/EnvironmentThe incumbent must be familiar with laboratory and facility operations, knowledgeable enough to work with staff to mitigate potential hazards encountered in these environments and understand field research activities at the Hanford Site and remote field locations. Additional InformationThis position requires the ability to obtain and maintain a federal security clearance.Requirements: U.S. citizenshipBackground Investigation: Applicants selected will be subject to a federal background investigation and must meet eligibility requirements for access to classified matter, in accordance 10 CFR 710, Appendix B.Drug Testing: All security clearance (L or Q) positions will be considered by the Department of Energy to be testing designated positions, which means that they are subject to applicant, random, and for-cause drug testing.
