Fire Protection Manager Requisition ID: 230639Position Title: Fire Protection ManagerProject: WTCC Posting End Date: 09/10/2020 Location: Richland, WA Relocation Authorized: National - Family Other Requirements: Pre-employment drug screen, background check and physicalBechtel is designing, constructing, and commissioning the world's largest radioactive waste treatment plant for the U.S. Department of Energy at the Hanford Site in southeastern Washington State. The Hanford Tank Waste Treatment and Immobilization Plant will use vitrification technology to process and solidify 56 million gallons (210 million liters) of radioactive and chemical waste stored at the Hanford site, which is a byproduct of plutonium production during World War II and the Cold War era.The project is the largest undertaking of its kind and one of DOE's most technically challenging cleanup projects. Its construction spans 65 acres (26 hectares) with four major nuclear facilities - Pretreatment, Low-Activity Waste Vitrification, High-Level Waste Vitrification and Analytical Laboratory - as well as operations and maintenance buildings, utilities, other support facilities.This position is located at the Construction Site (22 miles north of Richland) and works a 4 x 10 schedule, M-Th, 6:30 a.m. to 5 p.m. Selected applicant needs to be able and willing to work weekends as needed. Selected applicant needs to be able and willing to work night shift (5:30pm to 4:00am) and weekends as needed.The Waste Treatment Completion Company (WTCC) is a limited liability corporation created by Bechtel National Inc. (BNI) and Amentum. WTCC is a subcontractor to BNI, the prime contractor, to deliver the construction, turnover, startup, and commissioning activities for the WTP project.JOB SUMMARY The Fire Protection Manager (FPM) reports to the Safety & Health Manager. The FPM is responsible for assisting WTCC S&H Manager in the implementation of and compliance with fire protection requirements and activities of the Waste Treatment Plant.RESPONSIBILITIES/DUTIES/TASKS Managing WTCC Fire Protection GroupDeveloping, implementing, and revising Fire Protection ProceduresDeveloping, completing, and maintaining training as identified in Fire Protection ProgramCoordinating with managers to ensure effective implementation of Fire Protection Program and proceduresServe as the Requirements Area Manager for Fire ProtectionPerforming or providing required Subject Matter Expert for Fire ProtectionDevelop and Implementation of Fire Protection Program requirements and proceduresMaintaining and reporting required Fire Protection performance metrics and related event informationServing as the primary interface with WTCC Safety & Health Manager on Fire Protection issuesPerforming or providing National Fire Protection Association 72 Qualified Person(s) to support MaintenancePerforming or providing personnel to perform Fire Protection Program AssessmentsPerforming or providing personnel to conduct Facility AssessmentsPerforming or providing personnel to conduct fire prevention and life safety inspectionsEnsuring that identified deficiencies from a fire prevention and life safety inspection are promptly identified and responded to with a corrective actionEnsuring Fire Protection personnel are trained to perform program and facility assessments, inspections, and implement fire protection proceduresReview work packages to ensure that transient combustibles brought into the facility are reviewed for fire safety impact, controlled when in use and controlled when storedCoordination with Hanford Fire DepartmentMaintain expert-level knowledge in the field of fire protectionReviewing and understanding Fire Hazard AnalysisReviewing and understanding of active and passive fire protection featuresPerforming or providing personnel to daily, weekly, monthly fire protection inspections in accordance with inspection procedureProviding technical expertise to construction, start-up, commissioning, and plant management to implement fire protection requirementsPerforming or providing personnel to perform the functions of Fire Impairment Coordinator(s)Developing and/or approving compensatory actions for impairments, deficiencies, and system restrictions in accordance with the impairment procedureSupport the Waste Treatment Plant Nuclear Safety Quality Culture by emphasizing the values of safety and quality in the performance of work in order to protect self, others, and the environmentResponsible for directing assigned staff providing fire protection technical support and oversight of the Fire Protection Program implementation.This job description is not intended to include every duty, task or instruction for which an employee is responsible. Other tasks may be assigned, based on business needs and the department supervisors request.REQUIREMENTS/SPECIFICATIONS Education: Bachelor degree in Fire Protection Engineering, Fire Science, related degree, or equivalent education or specific training in area of expertise. Experience: Minimum of 15 years of experience in implementing fire protection requirements in accomplishing work at DOE, NRC or Chemical Demilitarization facilities. Demonstrated ability to incorporate requirements into project implementing documents and in maintaining these documents current with source requirements. Department of Energy (DOE), NRC, or Naval Nuclear Propulsion Program experience desired.
