The Hanford Tank Waste Treatment and Immobilization Plant will use vitrification technology to process and solidify 56 million gallons (210 million liters) of radioactive and chemical waste stored at the Hanford site, which is a byproduct of plutonium production during World War II and the Cold War era. The project is the largest undertaking of its kind and one of DOE's most technically challenging cleanup projects. Its construction spans 65 acres (26 hectares) with four major nuclear facilities - Pretreatment, Low-Activity Waste Vitrification, High-Level Waste Vitrification and Analytical Laboratory - as well as operations and maintenance buildings, utilities, other support facilities. The Waste Treatment Completion Company (WTCC) is a limited liability corporation created by Bechtel National Inc. (BNI) and AECOM. WTCC is a subcontractor to BNI, the prime contractor, to deliver the construction, turnover, startup, and commissioning activities for the WTP project. This position is located at the Construction Site (22 miles north of Richland) and works a 4 x 10 schedule, M-Th, 6:30 am to 5:00 pm. Extended work weeks and/or extended hours may be required or authorized to support the schedule. SUMMARY With minimal oversight, plans work requiring judgment in the evaluation, selection, application and adaptation of health physics and radiological engineering techniques, controls procedures, and criteria. Devises new cost-effective approaches to solving problems. MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES/DUTIES/TASKS Support the Waste Treatment Plant Nuclear Safety Quality Culture by emphasizing the values of safety and quality in the performance of work in order to protect self, others, and the environment Provide technical support for assigned aspects of Radiological Control Program implementation to assure federal, state, and WTP requirements regarding radiation exposure to site personnel and the general public are followed Promptly resolve program implementation issues by teaming with WTP management and facility staff to identify compliant, cost-effective solutions Perform radiological work planning for assigned facilities and operations Provide oversight of radiological field operations to assure operating facilities remain compliant with WTP requirements Provide guidance and information to facility staff on emerging issues pertaining to Radiological Control Program implementation Serve as a subject area technical expert for assigned topics Develop/review technical documents and procedures for assigned subject areas Support the resolution of corrective actions and assist in the investigation of radiological incidents This job description is not intended to include every duty, task or instruction for which an employee is responsible. Other tasks may be assigned, based on business needs and the department supervisors request Basic Qualifications Bachelor of Science Degree in Health Physics, Engineering, or related science. Appropriate training and experience commensurate with the responsibilities of the position may be considered in lieu of a degree: 10 years related experience to the position and 20 semester credit hours in technical subjects related to the position OR Completion of 80 semester credit hours in technical subjects related to the position OR Successful completion of Engineer In Training (EIT) examination or Fundamentals of Engineering (FE) accredited through National Council of Examiners for Engineering and Surveying (NCEES) OR Professional engineer's license. Experience requirements are as follows: Minimum of 10 years' experience in operational Radiation Protection and Health Physics with BS degree; 7 years' experience with MS degree Possesses expert knowledge of health physics with a broad knowledge of applied health physics/radiation protection principles and practices, standards and requirements, and applicable DOE Orders Experienced in Radiation Protection Program field implementation within the DOE complex Experienced in resolving challenging radiological issues with management and facility staff Experienced in in multiple areas from the following list - ALARA, radiological engineering, radiological work planning, engineered controls Minimum Qualifications Must be able to complete and pass a pre-employment drug screen, physical, and background check which includes verification of employment and education. Must be able to obtain a Department of Energy badge for access to the Hanford Site. Must be computer literate and familiar with Microsoft Suite software. Preferred Qualifications Possess the right to work and remain in the US without sponsorship. Active certification as CHP or RRPT. Shaping tomorrow together!
