OverviewDo you want to impact national security? Does addressing our Nations most challenging problems motivate you? Come and join our Nuclear Engineering Group! Our group consists of 6 teams spanning core performance, fuels and materials performance, material production technologies, reactor technologies, nuclear safety analysis, and project coordination. As a leader in national security, we possess a longstanding capability in the production of nuclear materials to support our nuclear deterrent and to counter proliferation of nuclear weapons. Another major focus of the group is the design, analysis, and development of advanced nuclear reactors and nuclear systems. The group also leads significant efforts in nuclear safety analysis for reactor systems and transportation packages. We are searching for a nuclear engineer with a broad range of nuclear systems experience to support a variety of projects.ResponsibilitiesDesigns, develops, and analyzes components utilized in nuclear applications and nuclear non-proliferation such as reactor fuel, reactor cores, radiation shielding, and instrumentation. Researches and develops analytical methods and technologies supporting all aspects of the nuclear fuel cycle including R&D activities related to storage, transportation, and disposal of used nuclear fuel and high-level radioactive waste. Supports nuclear regulatory work, risk-informed nuclear regulatory analysis, and probabilistic risk analysis. Addresses facility and process safety needs, principally in the area of nuclear-related construction, operation, and decommissioning. Studies the effects of interactions of radiation with materials.QualificationsMinimum Qualifications:

  • BS/BA with 5 years of experience
  • OR MS/MA with 3 years of experience
  • OR PhD with 1 year of experiencePreferred Qualifications:In this position, the ideal incumbent will support multidisciplinary projects that require a detailed understanding of nuclear systems, nuclear nonproliferation, and/or safeguards applications. The incumbent should have a detailed working knowledge in some combination of the following skillsets:
    • Demonstrated experience in nuclear power plant core design or nuclear operations
    • Extensive experience performing nuclear, mechanical, thermal, or materials analysis for in-core or irradiation experiments
    • Extensive experience performing radiation transport analysis, shielding analysis, criticality analysis for practical nuclear applications
    • Extensive experience performing safety analysis of transportation containers for radiological and nuclear materials
    • Extensive hands-on experience using detection equipment to perform gamma and/or neutron measurements
    • Extensive experience with commercially available nuclear modeling software, such as SCALE, MCNP, CASMO/SIMULATE and/or RELAP5.
    • Experience with generation of cross section libraries for nuclear modeling software
    • Experience applying machine learning algorithms and/or big data platforms and high-performance analytics techniques
    • Extensive Experience with software programming in C/C++, Fortran, Python and/or other languages
    • Knowledge of software engineering best practices, software project lifecycles, and tools such as GIT.Hazardous Working Conditions/EnvironmentNot ApplicableAdditional InformationThis position requires the ability to obtain and maintain a federal security clearance.Requirements:
