Requisition ID: 241985Requisition Posting End Date: 11/14/2021Project Overview:Bechtel is designing, constructing, and commissioning the world's largest radioactive-waste treatment plant for the U.S. Department of Energy (DOE) in southeastern Washington state. The $12.2 billion project will use vitrification technology to process and stabilize 53 million gallons (200 million liters) of radioactive and chemical waste currently stored at the Hanford Site which is a byproduct of plutonium-production during World War II and the Cold War era.The project is the largest undertaking of its kind ever and one of DOE's most technically challenging cleanup projects"-- - -equivalent to building two nuclear power plants. Its construction site spans 65 acres (26 hectares) and includes facilities for pretreatment, low-activity waste vitrification, and high-level waste vitrification, as well as an analytical laboratory. Responsibilites:Support design development and specification of mechanical equipment for the Waste Treatment and Immobilization Plant (WTP) in areas of material handling equipment, waste treatment and vitrification systems, and/or supporting utilities. Coordinate with the process engineering group in development of equipment requirements. Provide supporting analyses and calculations for design development, equipment selection, and safety/hazards evaluations. Work with mechanical engineers and other technical disciplines in a team environment.Qualifications and Skills:Basic Qualifications:BS degree in Mechanical Engineering or a related discipline with twelve (12) years of related experience.Must have, or be able to obtain, EIT certification within 12 months of hire date.Must be able to work and remain in the US without visa sponsorship.Level OneBasic requirements: BS or higher degree in Mechanical Engineering; must have a minimum of 12 years of experienceLevel TwoBasic requirements: BS or higher degree in Mechanical Engineering; must have a minimum of 15 years of experience.Minimum Qualifications:Knowledge of current computer applications for engineering and design including appropriate knowledge of CAD (both 2-D and 3-D).Familiar with regulations and industry codes and standards affecting complex engineering work within disciplineUnderstands technical issues and costs related to selection of typical design features within disciplineKnows how to develop all standard deliverables within disciplineFamiliar with effort required to prepare standard discipline deliverables and knows how to prepare standard engineering budgets and schedules within disciplinePreferred Qualifications:Professional registrationExperience in equipment design analysis in DOE or commercial nuclear facilities.Possess the legal right to work and remain in the US without sponsorshipKnowledge of Bechtel Corporate guides and standards.Experience in front end mechanical design and equipment selection for nuclear waste processing, nuclear, or nuclear chemical facilities including cranes, and other material handling equipment.Shaping tomorrow togetherBechtel is one of the most respected global engineering, construction, and project management companies.
