The Hanford Tank Waste Treatment and Immobilization Plant will use vitrification technology to process and solidify 56 million gallons (210 million liters) of radioactive and chemical waste stored at the Hanford site, which is a byproduct of plutonium production during World War II and the Cold War era. The project is the largest undertaking of its kind and one of DOE's most technically challenging cleanup projects. Its construction spans 65 acres (26 hectares) with four major nuclear facilities - Pretreatment, Low-Activity Waste Vitrification, High-Level Waste Vitrification and Analytical Laboratory - as well as operations and maintenance buildings, utilities, other support facilities. This position is located at the Construction Site (22 miles north of Richland) and works a 4 x 10 schedule, M-Th, 6:30 a.m. to 5 p.m. Selected applicant needs to be able and willing to work weekends as needed. The Waste Treatment Completion Company (WTCC) is a limited liability corporation created by Bechtel National Inc. (BNI) and AECOM. WTCC is a subcontractor to BNI, the prime contractor, to deliver the construction, turnover, startup, and commissioning activities for the WTP project. Role Overview: Plans and conducts work requiring judgment in the evaluation, selection, application, adaptation, and modification of standard techniques, guidelines, procedures, and criteria. Devises new approaches to startup, maintenance, operation, or testing. Plans and coordinates independent work requiring judgment and experience in the application and substantial adaptation of operations and startup techniques. Devises new approaches to operations problems. Provides startup, maintenance, operation or testing direction to subordinate senior startup engineers, engineers, technicians, crafts or others as assigned for specific projects or tasks. Requires experience and demonstrated skill in handling work and a broad knowledge of precedents in the industry. Responsibilities: Develops and evaluates plans and criteria within a discipline or specialty for a variety of project activities; interprets new or special regulations, codes, standards, criteria and performance data relating to the specialty; provides technical advice and counsel on specific assignments; provides input and participates in special technical educational and training programs as directed; and performs field consulting services as required. In addition, applies specialized knowledge of startup methods to the solution of specific problems; provides the resolution of technical questions arising in the area of specialty; uses advanced startup engineering techniques and the modification and extension of theories, precepts and practices of related sciences and disciplines. Basic Qualifications: Bachelor's Degree in Engineering or related field with 13 years of Startup (Commissioning) or related experience or in lieu of a formal degree, 19 years related Startup (Commissioning) management experience. Minimum Qualifications: Must be able to complete drug screen, background check and physical examination. Previous I & C and electrical field and management experience. Previous commercial and nuclear field experience in both managing Startup activities and performing them, including all aspects from pre turnover to client acceptance. Previous experience as Startup (Commissioning) Engineer, scheduling and performing system checkout and operation. In-depth knowledge of the specialty area (Instrumentation and electrical) and knowledge of principles and practices related to sound operation. Capable of being or previously certified as a level III Nuclear Test Engineer. Familiar with estimating, scheduling, budgeting and executing facility level system test programs. Good knowledge of related construction and startup practices and the economics involved. Knowledge of industry and regulatory standards, and design criteria. Skill in oral and written communication.
